It’s Christmas panto time. (Oh no it’s not…)

With toy production well on track it’s time for everyone at Christmas Inc. to enjoy a day’s break before getting into the final preparations. Traditionally, the senior management team organises a pantomime for all the elves to enjoy.

Be there, or be square.

Rudolph knows that one day of rest and relaxation makes all the difference to everyone’s work effort in the crucial last few days before Christmas. And the panto has become THE event of the North Pole social season — a chance for the elves to let their hair down and get a little silly after working so hard. And apparently, this year’s hotly-anticipated show, Cinderella is a must see (especially with the chance to see Santa put on his best frock).

But what about the elves that are working in different locations around the world? Jingle Bell is eager to find a way to include her remote workforce, keeping the team spirit high. After all, they’ve worked just as hard as the elves at the North Pole, so they should have a share of the fun.

Piling on the pressure.

The pressure is on for Donner (who’s in charge of Christmas entertainment) and Jingle Bell (this year’s artistic director) to give every elf the chance to get involved. So they’ve turned to Rudolph for ideas on how they can bring the atmosphere of the stage to every elf base around the world. And luckily for them, he’s got just the thing.

Rudolph’s mind immediately turned to the conferencing and collaboration technology that the Christmas Inc. board use to meet with each other and the remote teams. Why not use that to connect the elf audiences around the world to the show?

Rudolph to the rescue.

BT MeetMe with Dolby Voice integrated with WebEx makes the audience feel as if they’re actually cheering aJingle choirnd jeering the actors themselves — even if they’re thousands of miles away. It also means there’s nowhere for Santa to hide if he forgets his lines (again).

And BT MeetMe with Dolby Voice and the Dolby Conference Phone makes the panto itself better than ever (oh yes it does). The high-quality audio gives Jingle the chance to run a global Elf-Factor talent search to find the best carol singers for her choir (one year, the choirwas so out-of-tune that the audience really were wishing for a Silent Night). Many elves enjoy the limelight, but now Jingle can make them audition from wherever they are so she can sort the falsettos from the plain false.

Using the latest telepresence technology, Rudolph has made an awful lot of elves happy — and brought the whole Christmas Inc. team together. He’s also avoided his typecast role as the back-end of the pantomime horse (although the drag costume isn’t much of an improvement).
